After the news was revealed that Beyoncé would have a fashion exhibition dedicated to her in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s “Legends of Rock” section Fashion director of the NY Times, Vanessa Friedman, came to the conclusion that our beloved Beyoncé is not in fact a style icon.
Despite her millions of followers Friedman has noted that Beyoncé is yet to start any fashion movements as opposed to her peer Rihanna, who won the CFDA Fashion Icon award earlier this year. Beyoncé's fashion brand House of Dereon has been put on hold and comparing this to the success of other celebrity designed brands like Victoria Beckham or Jessica Simpson it just does not add up for Friedman.
However Friedman does not deny that Beyoncé is a true cultural icon. It seems that being a fashion icon comes down to the amount of influence they have on others. What do you think? Has Queen B ever changed the way you design or dress?
