The Bucket Bag

While it may be normal to think of all bags as the key piece in any outfit, it is important to remember that some bags have more universality than others. The bucket bag is a long-time companion, and walks the line between too simple and too trendy.

Its constant rebirth has seen variants made in leather, crochet, PVC, velvet and regular cotton, and shows no signs of stopping. Not only is its style commonly universal, its size sits in the happy medium also. While it may not carry enough for a long weekend away, it can take day-to-day all the essential items and more.

What’s interesting about the bucket bag is its appearance across multiple retail categories, available in high-end luxury brands, but also at chain retailers and smaller independents.

Mansur Gavriel has been credited with bringing the bucket back to the forefront of fashion, with the classic black leather with red lining, however its retails for almost $1000. Closer to home, and somewhat more attainable are bucket bag options from New Zealand brands Ruby and mydeerfox, who both have various sizes and styles available.

There is no advice on what to wear the bag with, as its intention is to be worn with anything. Although be mindful not to wear it with conflicting colours, advice that can be taken to any item of clothing.
