Following a successful show at the recent Miromoda competition and runway show at Pataka Cultural & Arts Museum in Porirua, two models have been selected to walk the runway at Miromoda’s New Zealand Fashion Week showcase.
Rikitia Holloway from Otaki and Konan Snow from the Kapiti Coast will both take the next step in their modelling careers, having been given the opportunity to get their faces in front of international media and buyers in the fashion industry.
“Although our core business is fashion events, our showcase at NZ Fashion Week is our ultimate goal and for that we contract up to 30 models from carious agencies so it’s logical we start building our own model talent,” said Ata Te Kanawa, co-founder, Miromoda.
Te Kanawa said the competition and showcase has been instrumental in increasing diversity within model agencies, since the first show in 2009.
“From the outset, the direction from Dame Pieter Stewart was that we should cast brown models to embellish the indigenous aesthetic on the runway, she actually reminded me of that last weekend,” said Te Kanawa.
