KIWI BRAND SCORES ‘A’ IN ETHICAL REPORT

The annual industry report by the Baptist World Aid Australia aims to track the efforts of fashion brands to ensure the rights of the workers. This includes a safe work place, living wage, and freedom from slavery. For the first year being audited, Kowtow is proud to be announced as one of the top scoring brands. With an overall grade of an A, this is highest grade of all New Zealand fashion brands. Kowtow was placed 6th out of 106 companies overall. “Conscious fashion is not a trend anymore - it’s a fact and the only way forward. We’re happy to be on top,” explained Gosia Piatek, Kowtow's art director and founder.

The news supports and rewards Kowtow's commitment to fair trade and ethical practices from seed to garment. For ten years, Kowtow has been committed to using only fair trade certified organic cotton, mindful manufacturing with fair working conditions, ethically soured trims and sustainable packaging. “We were excited when Baptist World Aid approached us to take part in the survey. The questions are very stringent and a lot of supporting evidence has to be submitted.To be given the highest grade of all NewZealand fashion businesses shows that we really are who we say we are. No green washing.”

Kowtow's environmental and social responsibility is supported with certifications from the Fair-trade Labelling Organisation (FLO), Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), Global Recycle Standard (GRS), and Social Accountability Accreditation Services (SAAS).
