Entrepreneur and designer Luís Onofre will succeed the Italian Cleto Sagripanti as President of the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC). Onofre had previously been in charge of the Portuguese Footwear, Components, Leather Goods Manufacturers’ Association (APICCAPS) since May of 2017. Onofre will take office by the end of May in Porto.
Onofre belongs to the third generation of a family working in the footwear industry, having created one of the most renowned Portuguese footwear brands back in 1999. The Luís Onofre brand has been worn by celebrities such as Michelle Obama, Naomi Watts, and Penélope Cruz.
Onofre is the second Portuguese entrepreneur to take over the CEC’s leadership—2001 saw Fortunato Frederico as the President of the CEC for two years.
The European Confederation of the Footwear Industry was created more than 30 years ago as the voice of the European footwear industry.
