EMERGING TALENT RECOGNISED AT DESIGN COMPETITION

Pataka Art + Museum hosted this year's sold out Miromoda Runway Show to more than 100 VIP guests.

Miromoda is the Indigenous Māori Fashion Apparel Board and is committed to nurturing the development of Māori fashion designers.

The judging panel for the 2017 Miromoda Fashion Design Competition consisted of head judge and NZFW founder Dame Pieter Stewart, Janey Evett who has worked for designer Nicole Miller and Lucire international fashion magazine publisher Jack Yan.

Following the success of the event, Porirua's Mayor Mike Tana announced it would return for a third consecutive year in 2018, saying, “Miromoda is an inspirational beacon for the youth of Porirua, and clearly a well sought after event for the whole community.”

Miromoda's founder Ata Te Kanawa hopes that Pataka and Porirua will become synonymous with the organisation saying, “Our annual fashion design competition followed by a runway show of invited fashion designers is a bold combo to pull off in one day. And one only made possible by having a great relationship with Porirua City Council, as well as the wider community including local iwi, Ngati Toa Rangatira.”
