GENETICALLY MODIFIED TEXTILES

TESTEX has opened a new laboratory for the testing of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in cotton products. “With our new PCR Laboratory we enable our customers to test cotton for genetic modifications; independently and transparently,” explained Dr Andreas Kapaklis, team leader ecology at TESTEX. This DNA analysis allows TESTEX to make a yes or no statement regarding the genetic modifications. “We would like to emphasise that the procedure is applicable to all textiles within the textile value chain, from cotton fields to the store.”

It is crucial for designers to be aware of the textiles they are using as they have a high impact on the procurement (planning, material selection & finishing) and before the collection is even made, they can take the first step towards sustainable fashion. The Made In Green label is for materials tested for harmful substances, made in environmentally friendly facilities with safe and socially responsible workplaces. MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® is an essential tool for a greener industry. TESTEX and OEKO-TEX® support several design contests across the globe.
