A favourite for keeping up-to-date with friends and connecting interests, shopping has now earned an increasingly important spot on Instagram. Each month, over 90 million users tap on tags on advertised shopping posts to find out more about their favourite brands and products. Instagram has released two new updates – Shopping in Stories and Shopping in Explore – to provide users with an easier way to shop and a new tab that offers retailers the opportunity to achieve greater exposure for their products.
In testing since June, the Shopping in Stories update allows Instagram users to click on products they see in brands’ stories to get more information about the product and how they can purchase it. This update allows a link to online stores to be added to the product users tap on. Approximately 400 million accounts views stories daily with one-third of the top viewed stories belonging to businesses – Shopping in Stories offers brands an excellent opportunity to reach more users and to showcase and tell the story behind their products.
Personalised to each user’s preferences, Shopping in Explore presents a new tab that works as a shopping channel. Whether simply browsing, looking for something specific from their most-loved brands, or wanting to be recommended something new from a different brand, this update helps brands achieve a stronger connection with Instagram users.
