New Zealand wide wage increase

Employers should be taking note, because another change to payment has rolled over effect today.

New Zealand has increased their adult minimum wage, with the rate rising from $16.50 per hour to $17.70. This new rate will apply to all employees 16 years and above across full time, part time or casual employment and includes those being paid a salary, commissions rates or piece rates. This payment change also takes into account any overtime, meetings or opening and closing hours worked by the affected employees.

Employers are expected to advise their workers of this change and produce a variation letter for their affected workers to sign.

While this change is being celebrated by workers, it is expected to put additional pressure on business costs.
