RETURNING HOME

Jane Sutherland and business partner Cherie Rhind

Fashion designer Jane Sutherland has returned home and established a new distribution centre in Invercargill. Alongside her new business partner Cherie Rhind, Sutherland has been working behind the scenes on a leased space in the Cambridge Place Arcade, which is the same space Sutherland worked while it was being used as a record store.

"I've actually always liked the space. I had a pop-up shop in here a few years ago and I just liked the industrial space and how high the ceilings are. It used to be a record shop, Play It Again, and I used to work here, " said Sutherland.

Since launching in 2004, Sutherland has grown the label to be stocked in Winton, Queenstown and Christchurch, with a store in Gore set to open shortly.

Although Sutherland would focus on design in the brand's birthplace, Kingston, Rhind wanted to work closer to her Invercargill home prompting the decision to open up distribution there.

"From a designer's point of view, it's always a dream to have your own space," said Sutherland.
