Get your favourite kicks cleaned with New Zealand's first sneaker cleaner in-store while you sip on freshly grounded Altezano Brothers specialty coffee.
We had a chat with Alexander Elbe, the mastermind behind this concept, to see how SNK Care has come about.
Why did you open SNK Care? Who is behind this brand?
Myself, Alexander Elbe. I have been buying and selling sneakers since the age of 17. I was injured on my 18th birthday and had to spend nearly a whole year at home, so, I was left with a lot of time to think and create a dream.
I was making average money off of reselling sneakers, and, the market was very up and down. So, I had a thought, how can I stay in this industry and not sell sneakers?
I reached out to my good friends Phillip Gallagher and Tom Mckay. I got them involved as this mission was not a one-man task.
How long has it taken you to set up your new physical store? What were the main challenges?
As we started looking for a property to base our SNK Care services at, we thankfully came across the perfect opportunity in setting up shop in Gimilles at 191 Symonds Street. Initially, we had started with a cleaning service at Checks Downtown where you could drop off your dirty sneakers and pick them up a few days later, clean.
Developing the soap was a challenge along with generating money. I'm 22 now, and it's finally ready for the market!
SNK Care opened its doors last week. What has been some highs and lows since opening day?
We are still spreading the word across the local community on upper Symonds Street, but all is well so far! We have a great coffee service with Altatzaneo beans, ground to serve, along with two sneaker cleaning options.
What do you hope to see in the future for SNK Care?
We hope to see our 150ml "Natural Based" Sneaker Cleaner Solution stocked at every sneaker store across New Zealand and Australia. We are in the works of opening another "Coffee & Clean" store in Wellington before the end of 2020.
