Charlotte Penman

Charlotte Penman’s beautiful handcrafted jewellery will be exhibited at NZ Fashion Week this year. Her work is classic and modern, with hints of bohemian romance. Having hand picked gemstones from all over the world she incorporates them in her designs that are inspired by themes in history, art and nature. Charlotte has studied art history, taken goldsmith courses, and studied design at Unitec before moving to Elam School of Fine Arts. She also thought of studying psychology when she was evolving her career path and this all explains Charlotte Penman’s aesthetic. Being classically inspired but modern, Charlotte adores the look hand finishing gives. She still hand makes much of her jewellery in her Auckland studio as well as collaborating with goldsmiths in New Zealand and Bali to realise her ever expanding collections. What the designer loves most about fashion is the ability it gives one to break away from the mundane. For Charlotte, jewellery and fashion are uplifting industries and making others happy through such a fun outlet in life is what makes her tick. The highlight of Charlotte’s career is traveling to exotic countries, working with amazing creative’s and more recently being able to be a mum, while still doing what she loves. Charlotte Penman has been with Tessuti for the past 10 years, starting off with small one off collections and has grown consciously from there. For example she has a diffusion range for her stockist of eight years, Workshop, and offers a bridal collection as well. Her work remains bespoke with capsule ranges, as she is concious not to let her jewellery become too manufactured. The designer loves beaten, rough polished and a satin finishes, using recovered metals wherever possible and recycled packaging. Working mostly with gold and silver, she loves to keep a timeless feel to her jewellery.
