Leading the Way: Specsavers Continues to Evolve and Modernise Eyewear

We sat down with Specsavers frame portfolio manager Nelly Soleil, to take us through the 2021 Autumn/Winter range, in-stores now. The recently launched Autumn/Winter 2021 collection encapsulates vintage and classic trends from designers you’ll love.

This season’s collection focuses on appreciating time-honoured and quality pieces, through modernising vintage styles. It includes collaborations with international designers such as Marc Jacobs, Viktor & Rolf, Hugo, and coveted Australian designers including Alex Perry. The range embodies aa contemporary vintage aesthetic, featuring updated renditions of iconic shapes and a luxurious colour palette to complement.

"A new season can be for a wardrobe refresh; a time to reflect on your personal style and introduce new accessories to elevate your look,” added Soleil. “For this season, we wanted to showcase some of our key designers and frames that you can easily fall in love with. Whether you’re looking at an upgrade to your everyday frames, searching for a way to bring in a pop of colour to your outfits, or wanting to wow, we have frames and designers you’ll love at Specsavers."

The 2021 Autumn/Winter range provides a good base of classic frames to build on your personal style. Tortoiseshell and soft golds have emerged as important colours, providing subtle opulence, while textured metals add a stylish touch. There has also been a resurgence in coloured detailing, from simple touches of pink on the Marc Jacobs 23 frames, to contrasting blue arms on the Levi 04 frames. Subtle pops of colour can bring any outfit to life.

"We wanted to really show appreciation to classic frames, the ones that rarely go out of style and are continuously evolving and modernising. The range pays homage to key designs such as the aviator, as reimagined by Viktor & Rolf, club master brought to life by Levi’s, square like the modernised Hugo frames and round eye like the Kylie Minogue ‘please stay’ frames."

This season the team really focused on showcasing the key designers available at Specsavers. "We have stylish frames available from the likes of Viktor & Rolf, who this season bring to life the classic aviator frames with a uniquely modern twist with their VR 11 frames." The style utilises a thin, gold metal design to give the appearance of two frames in one, delicately interweaving for the ultimate striking look. Alex Perry has taken inspiration from butterflies and created the stylish Sun RX 56 sunglasses in polished gold metal. A sophisticated look thanks to delicate pearl temple embellishments and rope patterned temples. This season showcases the designers’ style with twists of modernity which won’t go out of fashion any time soon.

Deus ex Machina is the newest designer collection that has roared into Specsavers. Known for a culture of creativity and individualism, the new eyewear collection takes inspiration from this Deus philosophy and channels it into a unique optical and sun offering. Get a taste of motorbike culture with the Deus Sun RX 4 frames available now.

Despite all the exciting new styles and trends, Soleil added that there will always be classic frames that never go out of fashion and that’s for good reason. "Styles such as the aviator, clubmaster and cat eye grace the catwalks every season, but you’ll see that each season they’ll evolve ever so slightly."

Soleil explained that this season the retro and classic trend has been taken up a notch with a focus on lighter metal constructs. "We’ve also seen a resurgence in chunkier frames too. Deus Ex Machina has reimagined the classic pilot style frame with the Sun RX 4. Made from thin metal and slim temples, they scream modern day Top Gun. Viktor & Rolf has opted for librarian chic with the VR 10 frames. In versatile tortoiseshell, the Clubmaster-style front is encased in a crystal-clear layer of acetate for a modern finish."
