Finalists for the University of Auckland Young New Zealander of the Year have been announced, and includes taranaki-born fashion designer Sean Kelly. The award, sponsored by The University of Auckland in conjunction with KiwiBank's New Zealander of the Year is designed to highlight outstanding young individuals who have excelled in their fields.
Kelly rose to stardom after winning the American reality TV programme, Project Runway. Since his win, Kelly has gone on to show at New York Fashion Week, New Zealand Fashion week, as well as establishing himself in New York as a strong designer to be watched.
Other finalists include golfer Lydia Ko, and Auckland University neuro-researcher Dr Malvindar Singh-Bains.
The winner will be announced at the New Zealander of the Year Gala Awards evening in Auckland on February 17.
