Paris has officially named its first street after a fashion designer and no it's not Chanel. Named after the late Sonia Rykiel, the Parisian mayor Anne Hidalgo declared "Allée Sonia Rykiel" on Sunday. "Sonia Rykiel gave us a taste for freedom, she was the most Parisian of Parisians," said Hidalgo. This is the same street where Rykiel did her fruit and vegetable shopping at the markets. In celebration, Rykiel's successor Julie de Libran staged their Paris fashion week show on the street with models taking to the runway with baguettes and broccoli.

Rykiel was known and is remembered as the Queen of Knitwear and at 86-years-old she died of Parkinson's disease in 2016.
