Anjali Burnett | Twenty-Seven Names

Having met in primary school, Rachel Easting and Anjali Burnett always had a passion for creating. Upon finishing polytech, they decided to begin a collaboration that set the foundation for their label, Twenty-Seven Names. Their brand name was inspired by the 27 people who helped get their label off the ground.

Proudly New Zealand, Burnett and Easting launched their brand with values of sustainability, supporting local industries, and ethical production. With the mild overuse of nonsensical puns, their brand is set apart from other designers with an aim to attract customers from all walks of life.

“We are heavily influenced by contemporary art,” explained Burnett. “We always look to artists for inspiration while we’re designing our collections and before our photo shoots.”

Designing prints and outlining their range plan are completed simultaneously, whereby Burnett and Easting try to get away for a week each season to focus on the design process. Discussing the latest trends and current styles turn into sketches that evolve into exciting, new seasonal collections.

“We’re trying to just really focus on creating beautiful collections that we’re proud of.”

For others thinking about going into the fashion industry, Burnett encourages having a clear vision about what your brand is going to be and how you plan on communicating it with others. And above all else, figure out how you will have fun while doing it.
