Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger Set to Move into Former David Jones Building

American designer lifestyle brands Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger are set to open stand-alone stores in the former David Jones Wellington site.

Located in Lambton Quay, the historic Kirkcaldie and Stains building has been vacant since David Jones closed in June earlier this year.

The prime retail site is currently undergoing renovation. Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger will be housed on the ground floor while the second level will be shared amongst three smaller-name retailers. The third floor will be turned into offices.

First Retail Group managing director Chris Wilkinson stated that the opening of Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger will boost local retail spending and attract more consumers to Lambton Quay, or Wellington’s “golden mile”.

The Covid-19 lockdowns have caused Wellington’s foot traffic and sales in its retail areas to dwindle. Fortunately, Wilkinson said that other international retail giants were also looking to open in Lambton Quay and other Wellington locations.
