From Elle and Vogue magazines to Modern Love Cashmere, Jo Lloyd has fulfilled her long-time visions of her younger years.
While growing up in rural Hawkes Bay differed from the big lights of New York, Lloyd treasured the ability to see into the fashion world. While Lloyd’s peers wore plain ballet flats, she wore rainbow-coloured variants, establishing her interest in uniqueness early on.
Lloyd’s intrigue continued and strengthened during her time overseas, where she was exposed to the range and scope of what else exists.
“A pivotal moment was my first cashmere sweater found in New York in my 20s. Being able to wear it while others wore wool. It was a turning point.”
Having worked in various global organisations in senior business and marketing roles, Lloyd had enough and was craving to bring her ideas into the world. Hence, Modern Love Cashmere.
After conducting the necessary research, Lloyd realised there was a gap in the market for top-quality, ethical, and sustainable cashmere clothing. Attempting to re-imagine cashmere to be less expensive while completing the modern look.
At Modern Love Cashmere, the team strives for every aspect of the label and business practices to be ethical, sustainable, and traceable. Using an e-commerce business model allows Lloyd to reduce operational costs and maximise quality.
While purchasing online can be daunting, Modern Love Cashmere is always available to communicate with per the recommended sizes.
The products are inspired by New Zealand trends and international influences and intend to reflect the current fashion direction. The production team and pattern maker working alongside Lloyd ensure the designs are unique with fine details.
Lloyd’s latest collection follows sustainable and mindful approaches and will only produce a certain number of pieces to evolve and expand ethically.
Keeping within the ethos of sustainability, ethics, and traceability while producing a luxury clothing brand is one of Lloyd’s proudest achievements.
Modern Love Cashmere seeks to run more pop-up and champagne events. They also now have a salon in Napier where customers can have a tailored shopping experience, a response to customer requests.
“We are now supplying wholesale to boutiques which is fabulous. We constantly get asked to look at adding new products and will continue to do this.”
