Dr. Martens x Nine Inch Nails

Three decades later, The Downward Spiral has remained a significant cultural milestone, evoking a sense of nostalgia and connection among its fans. This challenging musical landscape was recognised as a work of genius from the start. It delved into some of the darkest themes. It was intense, fierce, and unconventional.

It also served as a profoundly personal musical declaration that resonated with millions of listeners, inviting them to engage in a cathartic exploration of the inevitable void resulting from self-destructive behaviour.

Few artists can boast of creating something born from despair that profoundly connects to such a large audience. This has been honoured with a unique Dr Martens collection, paying homage to the darkness that gives birth to light using some impactful designs.

"This collaboration just makes so much sense, not just because of the numerous fans I've observed wearing Dr Martens at NIN concerts over the years (myself included), but because NIN and Dr Martens are both recognised for rejecting tradition and expectation in favour of innovation, each with their distinct ability to transcend genres and styles in a way that is unique to each individual who encounters them,” said John Crawford, Creative Director, Nine Inch Nails.

“The objective was always to make this collection as authentically Nine Inch Nails as possible, and I believe that we've achieved that through close collaboration with the team at Dr Martens."

The 1460 Boot is distorted with the album artwork 'Wound' by Russell Mills, reimagined in stark black and white. Each 8-eye boot features multiple fastening options, including a branded ankle zipper and detachable jungle zip front. It is finished with a rubber-grained trim and toe cap for an industrial look and a tactile contrast against the Backhand and Smooth leathers of the upper.

The boot rests on a heavy-duty commando tread sole and is secured with a black-on-black welt stitch. It is completed with an AirWair heel loop and references to NIN and The Downward Spiral.

The 1461 3-eye shoe deviates a rubber-grained leather NIN embossed toe cap, set against DM’s classic black Smooth and Backhand leathers used to construct the upper.

Elevated with the iconic ‘Crystal Teeth' image from the album’s inner art and ‘the downward spiral’ printed in a subtle gloss. Set on a pure black BEN outsole with a traditional Dr. Martens yellow welt stitch.

The 1490 is Dr. Martens 10-eye boot. In tribute to the wild and uninhibited live NIN performances, a custom print inspired by the band’s pre-show ritual of covering themselves in corn starch for a decomposing, post-apocalyptic aesthetic. Constructed from textured black and white Backhand leather and fitted with an ankle zip that slashes across the inner ankle with branded hardware. Set on an ice commando outsole and fixed with double black and white welt stitches. Finished with a monochrome heel loop and two pairs of wrap-around laces.

The Dr. Martens x Nine Inch Nails collection drops this Friday.
