A legacy inspired by the past, given to the present and guarded for the future.
Founded in 2010 by Laduma Ngxokolo, MaXhosa Africa presents the unique style philosophy of the Xhosa culture of South Africa.
Ngxokolo said that the Paris Fashion Week collection was a retrospective look at what the brand has been creating over the past 15 years.
As the only African-based brand accredited by the French Fashion Federation, la Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM), the brand celebrated its fourth consecutive season at Paris Fashion Week.
The IZIPHO ZABADALA (Gifts For The Ancestors) collection reimagined clothing as offerings to the ancestors in the afterlife, created to honour, adorn, and share with them an era in fashion they may have missed.
It showcased an inimitable ability to merge art and culture, as every piece perfectly blended historical patterns with innovative shapes and a clash of colours, making them a unique treasure to cherish.
“It is a reimagining of some of our most successful looks in notoriety, audience appeal, and art,” said Ngxokolo.
“The concept behind this was to reflect on what our people gravitated towards, curating a collection of retrospection with the MaXhosa design team, and packaging it as a gift to our ancestors.”
Each piece was both a tribute and a gesture of gratitude, and marked a pinnacle presentation for MaXhosa in Paris.
