Release Two of Maggie Marilyn’s ‘The Best of It’ Has Arrived

Release Two from renowned Kiwi designer Maggie Marilyn’s latest capsule The Best of It is here.

Launched as part of Maggie Marilyn’s first international runway show at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week earlier this year, the capsule is a nod to summer nostalgia, the affirming goodness of sailing clubs and those who believe the best days are yet to come.

The capsule was born from Founder Maggie Hewitt’s desire to combine her penchant for vibrant, playful, feminine silhouettes with elevated wardrobe essentials in order to create livable luxury, with a Maggie Marilyn twist.

Hewitt started designing the capsule at the beginning of one of New Zealand’s wettest summers on record. Despite the grey skies and unfortunate forecast, Hewitt found that local beaches were still packed with people making the best of it.

“That summer reminded me of a childhood largely spent on, in, and near the ocean - even on its worst days. Dipping in and out of the Bay of Islands’ local sailing clubs with my three sisters,” explained Hewitt. “Sailors possess an optimism borne not from naivety but instead the quiet knowing that if they just stay the course, good days are coming.”

The capsule includes hand painted floral prints, inspired by the garden roses Hewitt's mother grows, and sparkles, reminiscent of the way the sun shines on the ocean during a clear day. An abundance of stripes will also feature, paying homage to the stripes hidden in the details of a beachside summer: from life jackets to swimwear cover ups and rows of towels lined up along the beach.

“Bringing this collection to life made me reflect on how grateful I am for Maggie Marilyn and the constant it has been throughout my twenties as I now approach my thirties”, said Hewitt. “I’ve grown up alongside this brand and, despite the challenges, it still feels like such a privilege to participate in an industry where we are tasked with making beautiful things that make people feel good about themselves and the future - and if I can affect positive change while I’m here, then that makes it all the more fulfilling.”
