ZIERA are, and have always been, passionate about how our shoes look, fit and feel. So much so, that for more than 70 years since our family first started this company, we’ve made it our mission to find out what our customers do, what they like, what they wear and how they feel.

We’ve combined years of experience, knowledge of materials and the intricate mechanics of the foot in our design. With this understanding of foot science, we’ve developed the best possible solutions for women’s feet of all shapes and sizes.

In other words, we make shoes that must live up to the everyday demands of women getting on with their busy lives. Shoes that must look as good as they feel. We know our customers want to express their unique style, wherever they are, whatever they’re doing. Because we believe that standing on your own two feet, being the best you can be, and championing what matters to you, shouldn’t be painful.

The long & short (or sometimes arched & wide) of it is, our shoes are designed for our customers and what makes them who they are.

Now a rare opportunity has come up to join our Product Design team in the role of Senior Designer. This role reports to the Range Manager and is responsible for the creation of seasonal product designs and prototypes to meet design briefs for product groups, and working on new constructions to drive the shape of seasonal ranges. In addition, the role will be developing conceptual designs aimed at delivering the long-term strategy and driving ranges forward. Day-to-day, the role will involve the full design process from developing the seasonal mood, colour and material boards through to managing timelines, working with the tech team and last specialists, providing input on materials, working with offshore suppliers on prototypes and samples, and presenting to stakeholders.

The successful candidate will have at least five years’ experience in footwear design, a full understanding of the shoemaking process, including product development, design, materials, lasts, units, leather cutting and the tannery process. You will also be used to working to a set timeline, and have a good understanding of product costing and design specification packs. In addition, you will have strong communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills, be able to align design to strategic goals and be someone who can effectively manage pressure through good planning and organisation.

Ideally you will have a design qualification to degree level or equivalent industry experience with a high-level skill in computer software – including Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel, CAD software (ideal but not essential), and 3D/2D knowledge and experience.

In return, this is an ideal role for you if you’re a senior designer seeking a position that is challenging, varied and offers creative and career growth opportunities.
