THE FUTURE OF FOOTWEAR?

BEHOLD - the future of sneakers which looks a lot like a space boot.

Un-aesthetically appealing? Yes. Fashionable? You decide.

Regardless, the Rick Owens collection for Adidas is sure to make waves in the sneaker game. The above featured, futuristic 'Blade High' boot was worn exclusively in Owens' Men's RTW SS15 runway show, and is an extension of the fashion designer's 'Springblade' range. The range combines springy, blade-like polymer soles with calf-high leather uppers to create an incredible sole that "harness[es] energy and release[s] more back to you in every stride" and took six years to create.

The innovative footwear takes form in three models for Owen' SS15 collection - the 'Blade Runner',

'Blade High' and the 'Super Boot',

with each design coming in three colour-ways (black, cream and metallic grey), all of which are a perfect marriage of high fashion, performance-wear and Rick Owens' unique avant-garde style.

This isn't the first time we've seen a high fashion take on sneakers, or even their appearance on the runway - need we remind you about Chanel's RTW Fall14 runway sneaker debut not so long ago? However, the Owens x Adidas Springblade collection is a game-changer for more than just the designer's name attached to it. SoleCollector.com explains that in the pre-Instagram era, sneakers weren't judged by "likes", but by the "hierarchy of cool" and "neck-breaking status" and this futuristic, unique silhouette is sure to break necks when worn on the streets. That said, it'll be interesting to see if this daring new street shoe silhouette becomes the Birkin bag of sneakers.

The new Adidas Springblade Drive is available at adidas.com with other styles to be released soon.
