Twenty-seven names Now At The Shelter

Kiwi label twenty-seven names has found its next chapter, joining The Shelter in Auckland following the closure of its Newmarket store earlier this year.

The move signals a growing shift within New Zealand fashion retail, where independent brands are rethinking traditional standalone stores in favour of collaborative environments that offer both visibility and sustainability.

Founded by Anjali Burnett and Rachel Easting, twenty-seven names has built a loyal following through its intelligent approach to womenswear, balancing humour, print and nostalgia with considered tailoring and everyday wearability. While the brand has stepped away from operating its own retail space in Auckland, its presence at The Shelter ensures continued access for its local customer base.

For The Shelter, the addition of twenty-seven names strengthens its position as a curated destination for New Zealand design. In announcing the partnership, Taylor said bringing the brand into the fold was about continuity and maintaining strong access to locally made fashion.

“It’s about continuity, visibility and keeping strong access to our incredible made in New Zealand brands,” Taylor said. “It also reflects a broader shift in retail where independent brands move towards collaborative environments to remain sustainable, joining forces with other brands in solidarity, not competition.”

The relationship between Burnett and Easting, who have been creating together since childhood, remains central to the brand’s identity. Built on decades of shared history and creative exchange, that foundation continues to shape the label as it evolves within a changing retail landscape.

As more brands reassess the realities of physical retail, Twenty-seven names’ move to The Shelter highlights a model that is becoming increasingly relevant. One that prioritises community, shared spaces and collective strength over traditional standalone footprints.
