Twenty-Seven Names Shuts Auckland Store

After a decade in business, womenswear label twenty-seven names will close its Newmarket store, marking the end of an era for the New Zealand brand.

The label confirmed it will not renew the lease at the Auckland location, choosing instead to honour the 10 years spent in the space rather than extend it beyond what feels right.

The Newmarket store was a significant milestone for the brand and a major undertaking for its small team. The fit-out and launch were described as an ambitious and often chaotic labour of love, involving the founders and close collaborators right up until opening night.

Like anything built by a small, independently owned, locally run brand, the store was a true labour of love. The fit-out was intense, ambitious, and, as per, a comedy of errors.

The team remains endlessly grateful to their family, friends, team, and every single person who walked through those doors to shop, chat, and make the space so memorable.

The Newmarket store was opened with the collection Still Life, inspired by Judy Chicago’s feminist artwork The Dinner Party. The brand said that reference still reflected its long-held commitment to fashion as a form of cultural and feminist expression, and to making decisions with integrity.

To commemorate the store’s final weeks, co-founder Rachel Easting has curated an archive edit available exclusively in-store until the final trading day on Sunday, the 15th of February.

twenty-seven names will continue to operate through its online store and other retail locations across the country.
