Abby Plum has been in the modelling industry on and off for several years now. She started out in beauty pageants - notably competing for Miss Dallas/Fort Worth Texas at the age of 13 and Miss Galaxy England.
Since relocating to New Zealand, she is signed with Bintang Models. Her modelling talent could be attributed to following the footsteps of her mother, who also competed in beauty pageants in the UK. Her mother is now a nurse, and her sister is a photographer and make-up artist. The talent runs in the family.
Plum's greatest achievement so far was featuring in Vogue Italia last year. With that under her belt, she has gained various modelling bookings all over America, UK and New Zealand. Plum has featured in NZ Viva and Images Magazine to date.
With her experience overseas, she is able to see the differences in modelling industries across the world. UK, in her opinion, has been more competitive and harder to get in to. In comparison, working in New Zealand has landed her a lot more bookings, with walking in New Zealand Fashion Week being one of them.
Plum plans to explore her career in Australia - "the fashion industry is ahead of the game, and it's a destination I've never been," she said.
Although Plum is only 22, she has been in the industry for a period of time. For the younger boys and girls that are looking to join the modelling industry she advises, "keep trying, knock-backs are unfortunately part of this industry. Don't ever let that stop you from achieving your goals."
Plum admittedly 'fell' into this industry. With friends and family always advising her that she should "give it a go", so she did - without having any prior passion for it. However, now, she has found a real passion and she's so glad everyone around her has been so supportive!
Always looking into the future, Plum dreams to be in a Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
