Jane Ward-Able was born in South Africa, and it was there that she discovered luxury gumboot brand Silver Lining Gumboot and it was in New Zealand where she decided she wanted to import the products and sell them around the country.
Silver Lining Gumboots came about after a desire for functional yet fashionable gumboots. Five years later, the company is still going strong.
The two brilliant minds behind the brand are Cally and Liz, two entrepreneurs that have designed all of their boots and have had them sustainably made in South Africa out of recycled and virgin materials, many of which come from electrical, medical and mechanical industries.
“Their aesthetic beauty is what makes them unique. They are simple but elegant and are often mistaken for a fashion boot which is the idea so that you look gorgeous while still wearing functional waterproof footwear,” said Ward-Able.
All boots are also made to be supportive and well-fitted, which allows for all-day wear without aching feet that you may receive from other traditional gumboots.
Ward-Able’s role is being the sole distributor for Silver Lining Gumboots across New Zealand. She is a one-woman band, introducing and growing this international brand through her online store, Blue Baobab New Zealand and stocking in multiple retail stores across the country with hopes to take on more stockists in the future.
“We have a range of gumboots, so there should be something to suit everyone. They range from tall, mid-calf and short Chelsea-style gumboots,” Ward-Able explained.
While she works hard to build her business, she also hopes that one day, Silving Lining Gumboots can become a household name within New Zealand and a staple in every woman's wardrobe.
“It’s been such a pleasure building my business and meeting new people who have inspired and encouraged me along my journey. I hope to continue providing a great product to New Zealand.”
