Actor Joins Wool NZ

Famous Actor Joins Wool NZ

Wool NZ was proud to announce the selection of a new ambassador, who will be the face of its latest campaign.

Sir Sam Neill, a renowned New Zealand actor, lent his name and profile to help educate and advocate for New Zealand's strong wool in Campaign for Wool NZ (CFWNZ).

Neill is a fourth-generation New Zealander with a highly regarded career in film and television worldwide. He appeared in the classic film Jurassic Park, the television show Peaky Blinders and the Taika Waititi film Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

His love for wool has grown from his time on his farm in Central Otago, where he has sheep, cattle, pigs, ducks, chickens, and grapevines. Neill also said that his time working in woolsheds when he was younger helped him grasp the importance of the industry.

As an adult, he became a sheep owner and now possesses several Suffolk sheep that produce strong wool. He expressed how great wool is as a textile due to its durability, sustainability and biodegradability.

Neill will be a vital member of the CFWNZ, a registered charity funded by wool growers through a voluntary per-kilo contribution. In this role, he will assist in creating visual content that shows how New Zealand-grown strong wool is natural, comfortable, moisture-wicking and eco-friendly.

Kara Biggs, CFWNZ's general manager, said that the alliance is a perfect fit, with the charity ecstatic to be able to work more closely with the Peaky Blinders star.

Neill's passion for wool aligns with Wool NZ's core values, making him a perfect fit for the new campaign.

The campaign includes three other ambassadors: fashion and textile designer Liz Mitchell MNZM, architect Stephen McDougall and commercial interiors specialist Robert Macfarlane at CFWNZ.
