Chapel Street, Melbourne's busiest fashion precinct has been hit hard by today's magnitude 6 earthquake. As a result, Chapel Street has sustained structural damage.
After extended lockdowns in Melbourne and entering their sixth lockdown since the beginning of the pandemic earlier in August, this natural disaster couldn't have come at a worse time. Unsettling images of damaged shopfronts of fashion retailers and boutiques have been shared on social media.

Victorian retailers are struggling with the constraints the government has posed on them - that being, retail businesses being able to operate again only when 70 percent of the population are double vaccinated.
