Cathy Pope has launched her new Summer Collection, MODA, channelling the sleek sophistication of the 1960s jet set era.
Cathy Pope has recently launched a stunning new jade collection in collaboration with Mountain Jade, a highly respected, New Zealand-based, tourism-centred business with a major retail presence at Auckland International Airport and in Rotorua.
“Mountain Jade approached me last year and I’m thrilled to collaborate with them to offer more fashion-forward pieces and a fresh approach to working with jade compared to their traditional pounamu carvings and their more commercial Chinese pieces, which are sourced from their jade factory in China”, explained Pope.
Jade has a rich, deep history; it’s coveted all over the world and has been for centuries. Its beauty, durability, and rarity have made it a symbol of both spiritual and material value. It is one of the most important and revered materials in Chinese culture, and it symbolises beauty, power, purity, and immortality. Mountain Jade showcases jade sourced from around the world, not just New Zealand-sourced pounamu, which made it the perfect alignment for Pope’s expanding jade collection that features her iconic chunky chokers in both Australian green and black jade, along with her new hexagon cut styles that originate from Chennai, India.
Pope has ranged her staple jade pieces at Mountain Jade and has created some stunning new designs including a jade beaded necklace with a single freshwater pearl (shown left and above), dainty jade chokers and a jade and gold beaded bracelet.
“Jade is admired for its stunning natural colours, which range from pale green to deep emerald and even dark green and black hues. Many cultures believe that jade has healing properties, and in some traditions, it’s thought to protect the wearer from harm and bring good fortune. I’ve always loved jade, it feels so special to wear and I’ve loved working with it to create some really special, unique, fashion focussed pieces” explained Pope.
All Cathy Pope jade pieces are available at her online store, from her Vinegar Lane Boutique and most are also now stocked in collaboration at Mountain Jade.
