Emma Lewisham has received recognition from a Nobel Laureate for its scientific rigour and dedication to sustainable practice.
Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Dr Peter Agre, has credited the New Zealand skin care brand’s leadership in the industry for its thoughtful approach to formulation development and dedication to ethical and sustainable innovation in beauty.
“For me, what’s most appealing about Emma Lewisham is their way of thinking, curiosity, and genuine authenticity in their work,” said Dr Agre.
“I’ve enjoyed meeting and spending time with Emma, witnessing first-hand her commitment to solving problems while running a business that operates with real ethics and responsibility. Their work is anchored in science, using it as a force for good.”
Across decades of distinguished scientific contribution, Dr Agre has never lent his name to a beauty brand. Emma Lewisham is the first.
Dr Agre was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2003. His discovery of aquaporin proteins unveiled how the body moves water across membranes by forming an intricate system that allows the body to control where and how much water is distributed throughout the tissues.
His work revealed a critical principle that the human body operates through intelligent, interconnected systems, not isolated mechanisms. It is this same systems-based thinking that underpinned Emma Lewisham’s formulation philosophy.
Every product from the brand contains up to 25 evidence-based active ingredients at proven concentrations, designed to work across the skin’s multiple biological pathways all at once.
The idea is that the products are not just one ingredient doing one job, but rather a system, designed for a system.
Dr Agre’s recognition of Emma Lewisham followed that of Dr Jane Goodall, who also praised the brand for its ethical practice in 2021.
