H&M Announce Collaboration with French Label

H&M has announced its next designer collaboration, starting a landmark partnership with the house of Mugler.

Having always included a broad range of characters and beauty types, this partnership is said to extend the invitation further. Creative director at Mugler, Casey Cadwallader has included womenswear, menswear, and accessories, and is launching in Commercial Bay, Auckland.

This new collection captures the essence of Mulger, and with a history of rule-breaking and freedom of expression, promises to be a bold statement.

French designer Manfred Thierry Mugler founded the label in 1973, and since then, Mugler has pre-empted the themes of body positivity, gender fluidity, transformation and confidence that have dominated fashion in today’s society.

Joining the House of Fashion in 2018, American designer Casey Cadwallader has rejuvenated the house’s look and legacy. Cadwallader has produced a run of instantly recognisable garments, including telling the story of Mugler through avant-garde collections.

Early discussions of the collaboration took place before the passing of Manfred Thierry Mugler in early 2022, and the finished collection has an element of homage to the legacy of his designs as well.

Cadwallader said that putting this collection together for H&M was an honour.

“The collection is a celebration of everything that defines Mugler as a house and each piece is authentic Mugler, from the bodysuits, which have become a signature of ours, to the sharp tailoring and work denim. It is a showcase of our icons.”

Creative advisor at H&M, Ann-Sofie Johansson said that celebrating the legacy of Manfred Thierry Mugler with this collection is a proud moment.

“We were all honoured to get to know Manfred, and it feels very special that he was involved at the initial stages with Casey and the house of Mugler. Casey has done such an incredible job at paying homage to history, and to the archive while making the collection totally contemporary. Under him, Mugler has become one of the most innovative and exciting houses on today’s fashion landscape,” said Johansson.

The collection's silhouette is the recognisable Mugler fit of today; strong, big shoulders, a tight focus on the waist, an ode to the curves and lines of the body, and a tribute to confidence.
