Global outdoor brand, Kathmandu, has collaborated with Auckland-based, American-born visual artist, Jason Woodside to release a bold range of wearable and functional art pieces.
Woodside is known for his large-scale mural artworks, often painted on the greyscale walls of the world’s metropolises. Defined by contrast and inspired by nature, textiles, and light, Woodsides’s art combines vivid colours, patterns, and shapes to inspire feelings of happiness and instill positivity.
“I usually create art that contrasts major cities, so I was excited by the opportunity to create art that contrasts nature, but is also functional, high quality, and credible. What made it better was the chemistry between Kathmandu and I; we shared the same vision, and it’s led to a carefully curated range people will love,” said Woodside.
For the Kathmandu collection, Woodside worked backward, using the vision of a pitched tent on a remote beach landscape to inspire his color, shape, and pattern choices, landing on shades of blue, purple, yellow, and red, showcased through stripes, circles, and bands.
The vibrant artwork has been applied to a curated range of Kathmandu apparel and hard goods, including tees, shorts, hoodies, hats, a beach shelter, a festival chair, a drink bottle, a beach towel, and a trolley.
Each product has been purposefully designed to help Australians and New Zealanders to embrace the outdoors this summer and make the most of it.
Kathmandu General Manager of Marketing and Customer, Richard Dalke believes the collection is unique due to the way the pieces evoke joy and happiness through the vibrant art.
“In whatever way Aussies and Kiwis spend time in nature this Summer, whether it’s a day at the beach, hiking a new trail, chasing the sunrise, road-tripping with friends, or lounging under the trees with family, we hope they love the opportunity to bring a piece of Jason’s art along for the adventure and feel that extra spark of joy each piece brings with it,” said Dalke.
The limited-edition Kathmandu x Woodside range is available online and in stores across Australia and New Zealand.
