As New Zealand Fashion Week 2025 (NZFW) continues to evolve, a new era will begin with the launch of The Future of Fashion Showcase.
The Future of Fashion Showcase is a unique initiative designed to elevate New Zealand fashion brands ready to take the next significant step in their business journey.
Previously known as the Next Gen show, this reimagined concept reflected NZFW’s commitment to long-term designer support and industry impact.
The Future of Fashion Showcase has been tailored for brands with over three years in business that demonstrate strong potential for commercial success and a readiness to scale.
"This shift is about more than a name change - it’s a reflection of our vision to nurture brands with real staying power," said New Zealand Fashion Week Board Member and Creative Consultant, Dan Ahwa.
“We want to champion those up-and-coming designers who have laid a solid foundation and are now poised for broader recognition and growth.”
The Future of Fashion Showcase will offer designers unparalleled exposure to media, buyers, and industry leaders through NZFW’s event, digital platforms and media network.
With a strong focus on commercial viability, the project presents a unique platform to build brand awareness, strengthen industry relationships, and create momentum in both local and international markets.
Designers will apply for a place in The Future of Fashion Showcase runway event at NZFW 2025, with on-site show production costs covered by NZFW.
This elevated exposure on the official NZFW 2025 schedule will enable young designers to experience the thrill of participating in New Zealand’s premier fashion trade event, while also offering invaluable insights into how to take their dreams from the design table to the runway and beyond.
The soon-to-be-announced Future of Fashion Showcase judging panel will also be joined by industry leaders who will take on an advisory role before and after the Fashion Week event. These advisors will consult each young finalist on aspects of show production and business, including marketing, retail, design, production, sustainability, and more.
As NZFW redefines its role in the fashion ecosystem, the Future of Fashion Showcase stands as a dynamic opportunity for our next generation of brands to connect, grow, and thrive.
The Next Generation showcase on the New Zealand Fashion Week 2023 schedule featured designers James Bush, Oosterom, Flying Fox Clothing, Lipo and Nicole van Vuuren, who have all gone on to demonstrate success locally.
