Pacific Fusion Fashion Show Showcases Polynesian Talent

Returning to South Auckland Saturday, May 28 2022, the celebrated Pacific Fusion Fashion Show (PFFS) showcases nine Polynesian designers.

Able to return under the orange setting of the Covid Protection Framework, the show was rescheduled after several attempts to host in late 2021 and early 2022.

Since launching in 2016, the acclaimed fashion event has grown a loyal and enthusiastic audience. In late 2020, the show was a successful digital event streamed live from Wellington but is proud to be returning to its South Auckland roots this year.

“We have always been a proud South Auckland-hosted event. From East Tamaki, Otara, Mangere  Bridge, Manukau and this year old Papatoetoe,” said Pacific Fusion Fashion Show founder and director Nora Swann.

Auckland Council and Auckland Transport, as well as Eke Panuku and the Otara-Papatoetoe Local Board, have supported the team with this year’s location.

St George Street in Papatoetoe will become the runway for the evening show, with a stellar line up of fashion - literally stopping traffic!

Each PFFS event carries a different theme. This year's theme is WOVEN.

“It’s a play on weaving fabrics together but also – on a deeper level I see it as interlacing or  intertwining culture into modern day society and how Pacific people interlock into a western world with their fashion aesthetic and culture,” said the creative director tasked with choosing this year’s theme, Sammy Salsa.

The nine emerging and established designers showcasing at Pacific Fusion Fashion Show 2022 are:

Alexandra Simpson – Alexandra Simpson

BEAU LOUIS TAKAPU – Beau Takapu

disciple of discipline – Massey Williams

LIPO – Phillip Heketoa

MAKKE – Maggie Anitelea

OHN Clothing – John Tanuvasa

s.T – Susana Tasi

TANIROSE TAUSIE – Tanirose Tausie

TKT Fashions – TK Taito

The Covid-19 pandemic put a halt to many recent fashion events, including New Zealand Fashion Week in February at which the PFFS designers were set to showcase. Bringing back the face-to-face fashion show that attendees enjoyed in previous years was important to event organisers.

“The Pacific fashion community of fashion designers, models and everyone working behind the scenes were both relieved and happy to hear that we had decided to go ahead. With the loosening of restrictions and a return to the orange setting, we’re grateful to be able to give our community the confidence to attend,” added show director, Swann.

Pacific Fusion Fashion Show 2022 promises to be an unmissable showcase of vibrant fashion and  incredible Polynesian talent. PFFS regularly sells out so interested attendees should get their tickets quickly!
