An aspiring designer based in Auckland’s Pukekohe has received more than 300 plastic bags from locals to create a full gown made from plastic. 17-year-old Havilah Koledoye decided to skip her final year of high school, beginning her tertiary studies at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design and pursuing her dreams of becoming a fashion designer.

Last year, Koledoye featured on the runway of New Zealand Fashion Week with a design that consisted of 150 plastic bags, opting for a larger scale ball gown for this year’s project.

"It's quite durable, you can stretch it or anything, it doesn't rip or tear, and I'm ironing the back so it looks all neat on the back," said Koledoye.
