Wynn Hamlyn Spring/ Summer 2023 Collection

The Spring/ Summer 2023 collection is a continuation of last year's work, delving deeper into the crafts and techniques consistent throughout the brand to date.

Exploring Macrame, hand-made garments using cord and strings and knotting them into garments. Wynn Hamlyn seeks to follow innovative crafts and integrates new techniques into other garments. The Macrame blazer is one stand-out piece with a macrame stripe through the middle, which is made by cutting the blazer in half and re-attaching it back together with the macrame.

Rather than following a new idea, this collection reflects on the stories that have made Wynn Hamlyn what it is today and re-telling old memories through current design techniques.

Sourcing fabric from Japan, The Burn Out Bodice jeans and jacket are made from a flocked fabric. The art of flocking involves short monofilaments of rayon onto a base cloth of polyester to create both pattern and texture.

Finding inspiration after visiting Premiere Vision in Paris, Wynn Crawshaw director of Wynn Hamlyn wants to work with new fibres and techniques this season.

With new technologies readily available, Crawshaw is eager to revitalise the Resort Wear 2023 Ombre Sweaters. Combining the work within the factory, this season, the team is sprayed painting the Ombre Maxi Dress, Mini, Top, and Ombre Sweater by hand.

“Our target audience is anyone who appreciates the craft and construction of the garment. We avoid a specific girl as we want to cater to anyone,” said Crawshaw

Unlike last year’s collection, Crawshaw found inspiration from the Premiere Vision show, a global textile show that brings in suppliers from around the world. Allowing WH to source fabrics from mills that have been restricted since COVID.

A growing trend is the handmade aspect of clothing, shifting away from the mass-produced. The Macrame styles are handmade in Indonesia, with slight variations adding a sense of beauty through personalisation.

Crawshaw emphasised reducing waste during the sampling process, and the team spends a lot of time ensuring the patterns and samples are correct to reduce wastage.

“We also continue to source better materials that are less harmful or made from recycled material each season,” commented Crawshaw.

The Laundry pieces in the new collection are particularly unique for Crawshaw and a personal recommendation for customers to check out. Each garment has over 50 buttons that attach the knit panels, forming the full garment.
