From St Xavier and The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s latest collaboration

Forward-thinking Australian brand From St Xavier have announced their latest collaboration with The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The release is a handbag capsule created in honour of The Costume Institute’s exhibition, and the MET Gala theme for 2019, Camp: Notes on Fashion.

We’re thrilled to collaborate with The Metropolitan Museum for a third time and design a collection which captures the origins of the Camp theme of this year’s Met Gala, and the accompanying exhibition’s high-spirited aesthetic. The continued partnership with The Met is a natural fit, and we couldn’t be more excited about our impending fourth collection set to launch in September.

The bags, which have been dubbed the Icons Drawstring and the Winking Eye Box Clutch, have been designed exclusively for The Metropolitan Museum of Art and combine the classic themes and aesthetics of camp fashion, as well as the brand’s signature techniques. From St Xavier is known for their embroidery detailing, which can be seen heavily throughout this new collection, with iridescent sequins and beaded tassels being key features of the items.

In keeping with the camp theme, both items embody a humorous and ironic aesthetic, which are irreverent of modern society. The Winking Eye Box Clutch features a dramatic winking eye motif, providing a cheeky and theatrical look. While the Icons Drawstring uses imagery such as cherries, eyes and lips.

This is the brand’s third collaboration with The Metropolitan Museum of Art and is available exclusively via museum from May 7th.
