Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele Exits Brand

Alessandro Michele, Gucci’s creative director is exiting after working 20 years at the Italian fashion house.

Previously an accessories designer at Gucci, Michele was appointed to the brand's top creative role in 2015.

He is credited with shaping the label’s maximalist, flamboyant and vintage-inspired aesthetic. Michele created iconic products like the Dionysus handbag, revived its beauty collection and re-introduced Gucci classics, such as the double-G logo. His gender-fluid designs helped the label garner a new generation of younger consumers in Europe, the United States and China.

He also fostered many influential brand partnerships with high-profile celebrities, including Jared Leto, Dakota Johnson and Harry Styles.

During his tenure, the brand’s revenue almost tripled.

“His passion, his imagination, his ingenuity and his culture put Gucci centre stage, where its place is”, said François-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Gucci’s parent company Kering.

Gucci is yet to announce Michele’s successor. In an official statement, the brand said that it would continue to carry the house’s creative direction until a new creative organisation is established.
