Jean Paul Gaultier rejects fur-fashion

Jean Paul Gaultier is the latest designer to join the war against animal cruelty. The famed designer announced that he will not be using fur in any of his future collections, referring to the treatment of animals in these circumstances as “absolutely deplorable.”

Pressure from environmental activist group PETA has been mounting astronomically, with public displays from the association making headlines around the world. An activist was thrown out of Gaultier’s show in 2002 after interrupting the presentation with her anti-fur protests.

Fur is no longer on trend, as Gaultier joins an impressive list of designers, including Stella McCartney, Versace and Ralph Lauren, who have all turned away from the use of fur in any of their associated collections. Designers and consumers alike seem to no longer want anything to do with fur-fashion.
