Rihanna Leads Dior In New Eyewear Collection

The futuristic new style designed by Rihanna is simply called... Rihanna. Exclusively available at Dior stores from early July, even though RiRi is currently teasing everyone on her Instagram account with them. There is also no official campaign to with the launch, but Jean-Baptiste Mondino shot the images (seen above) of Rihanna modeling the frames for an in-house editorial.

“We are very pleased to partner for the second time with Rihanna,” said Dior chief executive officer Sidney Toledano. “She is an artist, an entertainer, an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, and a style icon for today’s generation.”

Dior is still searching for a new creative director, but this is the first time one of it's ambassadors have had the privilege of designing their own project. Other ambassadors for Dior include; Charlize Theron, Marion Cotillard, Natalie Portman and Jennifer Lawrence. The process began in October last year and Rihanna found a style she liked from 2000 that inspired her. She also said in a statement provided by Dior that she was heavily influenced by La Forge from Star Trek. “I’ve always been obsessed with his eyewear, and when I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together,” she said.

Mathieu Jamin, Dior's eyewear designer, said he was very impressed with Rihanna's level of involvement. “She chose all the materials,” Jamin said. “We had a lot of different samples with different effect of metals. She chose all the lenses and took time to match all the colors together to see if it was right on her face. It was really important to her.”
