Shiatzy Chen SS26 | Equestrian Spirit Meets Hippie Flair

Equestrian Spirit Meets Hippie Flair

Shiatzy Chen transformed the Oriental saying of "the horse unstill" into designs.

The Unstill collection portrayed romantic, airy, and free-spirited images of women, along with the elegance and speed of horses, both echoing the rebellion of the hippies from the late 60s to the 70s.

The palette drew on tobacco brown, coffee, verbena blue-violet, and black and white, interwoven with vibrant fuchsia, cobalt, and folkloric stone hues, to reflect both the carefree hippies and the disco neons of the period.

Silhouettes revolved around cinched and flared lines, as womenswear highlighted flared pants paired with vests, or lace shirts with soft bottoms, “long-on-long” layering, and relaxed yet structured suits in soft fabrics.

Meanwhile, menswear extended into mesh tops, chunky knit vests, jodhpur shorts, leather pants, patched tassels, cargo curves and cropped jackets, all paired with bell-bottoms.

The materials and craftsmanship continued the spirit of hippie handwork, with cross-stitch and ribbon embroidery details enriching the designs.

Mix-and-match styling also embodied a free spirit, with vintage wear paired with flared pants; crochet bikinis clashed with suits; tassels met denim; and pyjamas deviated from formal wear, all to display contrast woven in harmony.

Accessories featured triangular braided silk scarves transformed into headbands, neckerchiefs, or bag adornments, exuding the sensuality of the 1970s, while saddle-inspired arcs defined bag silhouettes with metal clasps and layered, dimensional structures.

Horseshoe-inspired jewellery, reimagined as earrings, necklaces, brooches, and belts, and footwear introduced reinterpreted Mary Janes, platform sandals, and brogues with perforated details and metallic horseshoe clasps.

Overall, the rebellion of the 1970s hippies and the romance of Bohemia were intertwined with the Shiatzy Oriental elegance in Unstill.
