Instagram has dramatically expanded its consumer services by adding a shopping feature to the app.
Previously, Instagram could be used by brands and designers to display and promote their products, but now people are able to purchases directly from the promotional channel. Customers payment information can now be stored within Instagrams database allowing them to purchase the products they ‘like’ without having to leave the app. The service has been dubbed ‘checkout with Instagram’.
Brands including Adidas, Kylie Cosmetics and Warby Parker have already registered their company with the service, expanding their reach to consumers. It has been revealed that there are selling fees involved in the process, being charged to merchants, however the exact figures have not been released.
With fewer steps before purchase and over one billion users at brands’ fingertips, this new expansion is being celebrated by customers and merchants alike.
