The surf label, Katin USA is holding an event on the 19th of May at their California shop to celebrate the 90th birthday of their oldest seamstress, Sato Hughes. Born in 1928 in Japan, she moved to California in 1960 where she began to work at a local dry-cleaning shop. Less than a year later, founders of surfwear brand Nancy and Walter Katin, hired Sato to join their team.
57 years later, she is still sewing at the same Kanvas by Katin shop in Sunset Beach, California.
