Textile Institute Organises Fabric Knowledge This November

Fabric Knowledge

The Textile Institute, which specialises in textiles, clothing, and footwear, has organised this year’s Fabric Knowledge event in November. Visitors will learn about the variety of natural and manufactured fibres available for fabric inclusion and knowledge of some essential fibre properties.

Another focus will be recognising basic yarn structures, allowing visitors to distinguish between woven, knitted, and nonwoven structures. This will help manufacturers fully consider fibre content, yarn, and fabric construction for specific end-uses.

For those passionate about fabrics and wanting to know more, the Textile Institute's one-day Fabric Knowledge course will reveal all secrets, including the processes available to introduce colour and pattern into the fabric to enhance the saleability of textile products.

The course is designed with a significant emphasis on practical work, ensuring delegates leave with a solid understanding of fabric construction, characteristics, and end-use potential. This hands-on approach is ideal for anyone who works with or needs an understanding of fabrics professionally.

While the event primarily focuses on apparel and fashion accessory end uses, it also provides valuable insights for those involved in other applications, such as protective workwear or household textiles. The fundamental knowledge of fabrics gained from this event is beneficial for a wide range of professionals, including designers, product developers, garment technologists, manufacturers, and fashion buyers.

Attendees will be asked to prepare for the course by dedicating approximately two hours to pre-course activities. This will be followed by the one-day taught course, which offers 6-7 hours of intensive study. Location details will be provided upon registration.

The Textile Institute is the only international professional body representing the entire textile supply chain, connecting students, professionals, and organisations globally. It provides services that support its members' continuing professional development, whether through education, sharing knowledge, providing practical advice, or connecting members.
