Fashion industry gaining the attention of television networks

Fashion design has been a medium deemed reality television worthy by various networks in the past, with Project Runway racking up seventeen seasons over fifteen years. Now, international streaming platform Netflix has announced their bid to capture budding design enthusiasts with the launch of a new competition series.

Next In Fashion will be hosted by designer and television personality Alexa Chung alongside Queer Eye stylist Tan France. Eighteen emerging designers will compete in industry-based challenges for a cash prize and retail deal with online distributor Net-a-Porter.

The fashion industry has seen a dramatic increase in televised attention recently, as Next In Fashion is only the most recently announced addition to 2019’s line-up. Project Runway received a revamp earlier this year with a whole new cast and format. Bravo and Amazon are also investing in the genre with similar competition based shows hosted by renown stylists, models and designers.
