Epitomising classic American style and effortless cool, Levi’s have collaborated with American designer Reese Cooper on a ten-piece line-up blending high fashion and heritage.
Reese Cooper was awarded the runner up prize in the CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund in 2019, and in 2020 was nominated for the CFDA’s Emerging Designer of the Year award alongside being named one of Forbes 30 under 30. Cooper grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, buying his Levi’s from a farm supply chain called Tractor Supply Co. As a teenager in London, he most often encountered Levi’s through specialty fashion collections sold at places like Dover Street Market, exemplifying Levi’s authentic occupation of both the workwear and fashion spaces. This was the inspiration behind the new Spring 2022 collaboration between Levi’s and Reese’s eponymous brand.
The Levi’s® x REESE COOPER® collection seamlessly blends runway style and utility workwear, with a focus on authentic workwear materials and construction.
Including a Levi’s Type II Trucker and a Levi’s straight fit jeans in triple-stitched organic cotton duck canvas, available in green or ecru, as well as a patchwork chore coat and straight fit jean in indigo denim, made from Cottonised Hemp.
Also included are a two-pocket hoodie in either green or ecru organic cotton, both of which feature graphics based on heritage Levi’s back patches, and two organic cotton graphic pocket tees, with graphics based on the Levi’s brand’s iconic workwear lineage.
For Cooper, one of the most important elements of the collection was that it included sustainable fabrications.
“You think of Levi’s® as being cool, like the classic 501®. But on the original back patch, it calls out its durability with the rivets and canvas and denim. I just wanted to tie together the two main components the brand was built on. For me, this was an opportunity to essentially make proper heritage workwear with a company that pioneered it,” Cooper said.
Every piece is made using either Cottonised Hemp or organic cotton, two fabrics that have become an integral part of Levi’s reducing its environmental footprint. Cottonised Hemp is an innovative technique from Levi’s in which hemp yarn is processed to feel just as soft and comfortable as traditional cotton.
The entire collection will debut as part of Reese Cooper’s Spring runway show at Paris Fashion Week.
In the first ever “see-now-buy-now” collaboration for Levi’s, Seed & Soil will then be available for purchase on the same day as the show, allowing customers to shop the collection immediately. The collection will be showcased at a special Levi’s® x REESE COOPER® pop-up shop, curated by Cooper, for the entire week of Paris Fashion Week.
The Levi’s® x Reese Cooper collection will be available for purchase starting June 23, 2022 on Levis.com.au/Levis.co.nz, and Reese-Cooper.com – as well as at the Levi’s® x REESE COOPER® pop-up shop (14 Rue d'Uzès, 75002 Paris, France) from June 23-26.
