Fabric Knowledge Course in Manchester

The Textile Institute will host its one day Fabric Knowledge course on 3 December 2026 at The Midland Hotel in Manchester, United Kingdom.

Designed for professionals working across apparel, fashion accessories and textiles, the course provides a practical introduction to fabric construction, performance and end use applications. Participants will gain an understanding of natural and manufactured fibres, yarn structures, woven, knitted and nonwoven fabrics, as well as the role fibre selection, yarn choice and fabric construction play in product development.

The programme also explores colouration, pattern application and finishing processes, helping attendees understand how textiles can be enhanced to improve functionality and commercial appeal.

A key component of the course is its hands on approach, with practical learning designed to give delegates a deeper understanding of fabric characteristics and performance.

The course is suitable for designers, product developers, garment technologists, manufacturers and buyers seeking to strengthen their knowledge of textile fundamentals. It also offers value for professionals working in specialist sectors such as protective workwear and household textiles.

Participants are expected to complete approximately two hours of pre-course preparation before attending the six to seven hour training programme.
